Summer Fun


So what special things do we have going on here in the summer that we don't find happening all year? Well, there's a few things. Of course there's boating, fishing, biking and hiking with lots of choices of lakes, streams and trails. In addition here's some of the activities happening in our area:
  • Pinecrest Lake (20 minutes "up the hill"), Movies Under the Stars at Pinecrest Theatre. Enjoy family movies under the stars with fresh popcorn, candy and cold drinks. Shows start at dusk (8:00P - 8:15P). Movie ticket prices are $5 and under 3 years are free. For more information on the wide variety of activities available visit the Pinecrest Lake website.

  • Twain Harte (5 minutes "down the hill") Concerts in the Pines (Saturday Nights), Movies in the Pines (Friday Nights). Both the concerts and movies are held at Eproson Park in Twain Harte. Admission is free to all events. Be sure to bring low back lawn chairs, blankets and a jacket because it can get cool in the evenings. Popcorn and soft drinks are available for purchase.   • Black Oak Casino   Link to Entertainment line-up, Music Dancing, Five star dining, and Winners Circle!

  • Railtown 1897 State Park, Jamestown (20 minutes "down the hill"). Fun for both grown-ups and kids. If you like steam trains, and who doesn't, you'll certainly enjoy Railtown. Trains run on weekends from April through October. They also have special trains operating throughout the year. Check their website for a list of special trains, etc for this fun park. Many movies have been filmed here, including the long running TV series Petticoat Junction. Be sure to visit the roundhouse and warehouse where you'll find posters from many of the films made there. All aboard! Oh, lots of antique shopping in Jamestown too as well as many original buildings from the 1850's and the California Gold Rush.

  • Emigrant Wilderness, Stanislaus National Forest, Sonora Pass (1.25 hours "up the hill"). 113,000 acre wilderness area entirely within Tuolumne County, bordered by Yosemite National Park on the south, Toiyabe National Forest on the east and Highway 108 on the north. Highest point is Leavitt Peak at 11,570 feet. Check their website for details and hiking tips.
